What it is and the mechanism

Central atom in hemoglobin and myoglobin, carrying oxygen through blood and muscle. Also a cofactor for energy-producing enzymes and neurotransmitter synthesis. Deficiency reduces oxygen delivery, causing fatigue and impaired focus.

Interactions and cautions

Read these before combining this with other supplements or medication. The risk is rarely the headline, it is the interaction you did not check.

Interactions
  • Calcium, zinc, coffee, tea, reduce absorption; separate timing
  • Levothyroxine and some antibiotics, separate by 2–4 h
Cautions
  • Do not supplement without confirmed low iron or ferritin
  • Excess iron is toxic; keep away from children
  • Constipation and GI upset are common
